Father’s Day is a day when fathers get the appreciation they deserve. For most families, this means dedicating a day to dad’s favorite activities.
And for a small group of men in Central Florida, this means showing off their hot rod projects.
Since 1989, the Central Florida Street Rod Association has held the Father’s Day Rod Run—a car and truck show that features pre-1949 models.
“It was my choice many years ago to start a car show ON Father’s Day weekend because there are car shows throughout the year on other holidays,” said Paul Stanley, a local resident and the founder of the Central Florida Street Rod Association. “There were shows on Easter, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, but nothing really for Father’s Day.”
Paul said that the group, composed of 20 hot rod lovers, started the Father’s Day weekend tribute, because they thought it would be a good time to show off hot rods to emphasize on hobbies.
“We even incorporate Father’s Day into our event,” Stanley said. “We offer awards for the oldest father, the youngest father and the newest father in attendance at the event. We do that in addition to all the car-related prizes we offer.”
